STASH is honored to be one of only two places that carries new Frankoma pottery. You’re holding a piece of Oklahoma history in your hands, and every purchase supports a legacy that is being reborn.
Frankoma pottery was established in 1933 right here in Norman, OK. John Frank was professor of ceramics at OU from 1927-1936. He worked closely with local Geologists to locate the most favorable clay.
He began using a light colored clay found in Ada, but discovered the clay of Sugar Loaf Hill after moving the business to Sapulpua to be richer in red color. He loved this red in the final firing & glazing of these now iconic pieces.
Frankoma Pottery has survived two factory fires (1938 and 1983) and after Mr Frank died, passed through the hands of half a dozen owners. Amazingly, the molds survived. Production restarted in a brand new facility in 2022. Because of the dedication of 3 key employees who worked for Mr Frank for over 40 years, we are able to bring you newly made pieces from vintage molds.
Popular Frankoma glazes are inspired by nature with titles like “Prairie Green” “Redbud” & “Sky Blue”. Frankoma pottery has become coveted across the U.S. and beyond by artists, Oklahoma lovers, and ceramicists alike.
We're thrilled to offer these beautiful timeless pieces to you.
